Holistic Weight Loss

Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is integral to feeling our best and living a healthy and active lifestyle. There are unfortunately many quick fix solutions floating around out there though that often leave people yo-yo dieting, hungry, frustrated, and most times either unable to loose the weight or ending up gaining it back plus some after a quick, unsustainable weight loss gimmick. When someone is truly ready to achieve a healthy lifestyle and put forth the commitment to changing their habits permanently, weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight can come with very little effort. Our bodies naturally want to be healthy and if we consistently feed them healthy, nourishing foods and move them appropriately they will eventually settle at a healthy weight and also reward us with much improved energy and a general happier outlook on life. With this realization however comes the need to accept that what we may consider our “ideal” weight, which is often fueled.

Digestive Health

The state of our digestive systems affects every other aspect of our lives. From our emotional well being to our immunity, if our digestive system is out of whack we will not be at our optimal best. There are many pharmaceutical quick fixes that do provide some relief from these issues. Some of these may be appropriate in certain situations when immediate relief is required.  Such products can include antacids or anti-diarrheals and these are readily available in pharmacies. However, if someone is dealing with chronic digestive issues or would like a longer term more holistic approach, then there are many wonderful avenues that can be explored.

My first post!

Welcome to our new website and our new blog, The Holistic Pharmacist! I’d like to take the opportunity of this first official blog post to introduce myself, let you know how I got here and to give you an idea of what you can expect when you visit our website and our blog! My name is Karoline and I am a traditionally trained pharmacist. I went to the University of Toronto and graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science, Pharmacy, in 2005. The reason I got into the pharmacy field was that I’d always been interested in health and helping people feel their best. For many years I believed pharmacy gave me an opportunity to do just that. However, about 5 years ago I started becoming more interested in more natural ways to promote health and natural solutions that could be used in place of pharmaceutical interventions and started to question some of the interventions I’d been regularly promoting and recommending.  I went through a few years where I struggled with this.
